Treat every source as unreviewed
A valid row can still contain the wrong date, location, owner, image permission or public wording. Import a five-record sample on staging, review every screen, then continue.
Use clean keys and one listing per source record
For CSV, use the first row for clear, unique column headings. For JSON, use a consistent array of records with stable keys. Names such as title, description, start date, venue, latitude, longitude and website make either format easier to review.
At minimum, provide a title. Event-style records should also provide a valid start and, where relevant, end and IANA time zone. Physical listings should include reviewed address, city, country, latitude, and longitude. Do not assume geocoding will repair every imported location.
Use Free for structured files and dependable Chrome drafts
A Free CSV or JSON file should stay close to the documented fields for the active profile: core content, dates, location, contact details and the four standard taxonomies. Remove data the directory will not use.

Build a five-record sample

Validate the source
Check encoding, quotes or JSON structure, dates, IANA time zones, coordinates, URLs, taxonomy separators and permission to reuse every image.
Choose the review state
Import as Draft or Pending. Review suggested mappings and the duplicate-skipping choice before creating the sample records.
Audit before continuing
Review the sample’s cards, detail pages, map pins, classifications, images, owner and status. Correct the source or mapping before importing the remaining records.
